PM Modi Moved By Warm Reception From ‘Friend’ Anwar Ibrahim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Kuala Lumpur and described the reception from his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, as deeply moving.

He travelled with Anwar to a community programme, underscoring the strong historical and civilisational ties between the two nations.

The visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s two-day official engagement in Malaysia.

On his official X account, the Prime Minister posted: “Celebrating the India-Malaysia people-to-people connect! PM Anwar Ibrahim and I are heading to the community programme in Kuala Lumpur.”

He also shared a photograph of both leaders travelling together from the airport to the event.

PM Modi thanked Anwar for the warm airport welcome. He said he looked forward to substantive talks and to strengthening the bonds of friendship between India and Malaysia.

Excited children greeted the Prime Minister at the airport, waving the Indian tricolour alongside the Malaysian flag.

Expanding Defence & Economic Ties

PM Modi said his mission in Malaysia aims to deepen defence and security ties. He added that the visit will bolster economic and innovation collaboration.

The Prime Minister emphasised expanding cooperation into fresh sectors and enhancing strategic engagement.

This visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s third trip to Malaysia. It is his first since the bilateral ties gained Comprehensive Strategic Partnership status in August 2024.

In his departure statement, he said the historic relationship has progressed steadily. He added that he looks forward to productive talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

PM Modi highlighted the Indian diaspora in Malaysia as a ‘living bridge’ between the two countries.

He observed that the community, nearly three million strong, constitutes one of the world’s largest Indian diasporas.

He praised their contribution to Malaysia’s progress and their role in reinforcing the bilateral bond.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold formal bilateral meetings with Anwar Ibrahim.

He will also meet Indian community leaders, industry representatives and business delegates, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed.

The 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum will convene during the Prime Minister’s visit. It will provide a platform for corporate engagement and investment discussions.

The visit aims to convert diplomatic warmth into concrete outcomes. It seeks to blend strategic cooperation with people-centred ties, driving both security and prosperity for India and Malaysia.
