Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, to review India-UK relations and discuss ways to accelerate cooperation across key sectors.
After the meeting, PM Modi described the past year as a landmark period for bilateral ties, highlighting the opportunities created by the recently concluded trade agreement. He said both countries aimed to build on this momentum and unlock new avenues of collaboration.
The leaders discussed cooperation in innovation, artificial intelligence, skill development, sports and investment. They also explored measures to strengthen economic engagement and expand investment linkages between India and the United Kingdom.
Both leaders welcomed the expected early implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, which is set to boost trade and investment. They also praised the expanding education partnership between the two countries.
The University of Liverpool plans to establish a campus in Bengaluru, while the University of York and the University of Bristol are moving forward with campuses in Mumbai.
PM Modi thanked Starmer for the UK’s strong participation in the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi earlier this year. He also welcomed progress under the Technology Security Initiative, including the launch of the India-UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory.
The leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the situations in West Asia and Ukraine.
Reaffirming their commitment to the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, they pledged to deepen cooperation on shared priorities.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi also interacted with several world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, as discussions continued on global challenges and international cooperation.
