PM Modi Is A True Friend Of Australia, Says PM Anthony Albanese

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘true friend of Australia’ and said it was an honour to welcome him to a packed Marvel Stadium during the ‘Melbourne Meets Modi’ community event.

Addressing thousands from the Indian community, Albanese said the stadium had hosted many memorable occasions over the years, but none more significant than the gathering celebrating the India-Australia partnership. He said the enthusiasm and dynamism displayed at the event reflected the positivity and promise shared by both nations and their people.

Albanese recalled visiting India twice as Australia’s Prime Minister and said each visit had left him captivated by the country’s beauty, vibrancy, and the warmth of its people.

Referring to his visit to Ahmedabad in 2023, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the affection he witnessed between the people of both countries during a lap of the Narendra Modi Stadium in a chariot was equally evident among the crowd in Melbourne. He said it was a privilege to extend Australian hospitality to PM Modi and described the event as a celebration of the friendship between two great democracies and multicultural societies.

Highlighting the role of the Indian diaspora, Albanese said the more than one million Australians of Indian origin have made a profound contribution to the country. He said the community is often the first to volunteer during national crises and continues to strengthen Australia through its contributions to healthcare, information technology, small businesses and education, particularly in Victoria.

Calling the Indian community the ‘living bridge’ between Australia and India, Albanese said its commitment, aspirations and cultural contributions have helped make Australia stronger, more vibrant and more prosperous.
