PM Modi, Indonesia President Reaffirm Commitment To Peaceful Indo-Pacific

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific during bilateral talks in Jakarta, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, discussing cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, maritime affairs, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, space, critical minerals, rare earths, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reiterated their shared vision for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

According to the MEA, India and Indonesia exchanged several bilateral agreements covering maritime safety and security, defence, space cooperation, steel supply chains, rare earths, healthcare, agriculture, science and technology.

The Ministry said the agreements would further strengthen cooperation across priority sectors and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

During the visit, President Prabowo Subianto conferred Indonesia’s highest civilian and military honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, on Prime Minister Modi.

Instituted in 1959, the award recognises extraordinary service and marks another prestigious international honour for the Indian Prime Minister.

The MEA said the award recognised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in strengthening India-Indonesia ties. PM Modi dedicated the honour to the people of India and the enduring friendship between the two nations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome at Jakarta’s Istana Merdeka and thanked President Prabowo Subianto for the warm reception.

This is PM Modi’s fourth visit to Indonesia and the first stop of his three-nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand.
