PM Modi Inaugurates Kalachakra ‘Wheel Of Time’ In Presence Of Bhutan King

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the second day of his Bhutan visit, inaugurated the sacred Kalachakra ‘Wheel of Time’ Empowerment in Thimphu on Wednesday.

The ceremony, held as part of the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival, marked a significant spiritual and cultural event celebrating Buddhist unity and harmony.

Bhutan’s King, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, graced the event, while the Chief Abbot of Bhutan, His Holiness the Je Khenpo, presided over it.

Their presence, alongside the Prime Minister, underscored the deep spiritual bond and mutual respect shared between India and Bhutan.

Taking to social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his honour at being part of the occasion, writing: “Had the honour of inaugurating Kālacakra ‘Wheel of Time’ Empowerment with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, and His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo. It was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo which made it even more special.”

He further noted that the Kalachakra Empowerment holds immense cultural and spiritual importance for Buddhists worldwide.

The Prime Minister added that the festival brings together devotees and scholars of Buddhism from across the globe, reinforcing Bhutan’s position as a spiritual centre of peace and enlightenment.

Strengthening India–Bhutan Relations

A day prior to the inauguration, PM Modi joined the Bhutanese King at Thimphu’s Tashichhodzong to seek blessings from the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, enshrined in the Grand Kuenrey Hall.

India sent these relics for exposition as a special gesture to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan’s Fourth King and the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival.

The visit symbolised the centuries-old cultural and spiritual ties between the two Himalayan nations.

The shared reverence for Lord Buddha continues to form a cornerstone of the enduring India–Bhutan relationship, fostering cooperation that extends beyond politics to cultural and spiritual domains.

During his visit, PM Modi also participated in the celebrations marking the 70th birth anniversary of the Fourth King of Bhutan.

Observers viewed his participation as reaffirming India’s long-standing commitment to its Himalayan neighbour, both as a partner in development and as a custodian of their shared heritage.

The inauguration of the Kalachakra ‘Wheel of Time’ serves not only as a sacred spiritual event but also as a testament to India and Bhutan’s enduring friendship, grounded in mutual respect, faith, and shared values of peace and compassion.
