Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held delegation-level talks with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, in Kuala Lumpur, focusing on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including defence, security, clean energy and technology.
Welcoming PM Modi and his delegation, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the two sides discussed issues that require focused attention from their respective teams.
Expressing optimism, he said he expected greater collaboration across sectors and described the visit as personally significant.
Prime Minister Modi thanked Anwar Ibrahim for the warm hospitality, saying the depth of the India–Malaysia friendship was evident, and noted that it was his third visit to Malaysia and fourth meeting with the Malaysian leader.
He highlighted growing cooperation in agriculture, clean energy, defence and security, semiconductors, skill development and capacity building.
He also congratulated Malaysia on its successful ASEAN chairmanship and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to grow.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya, marking the formal start of his engagements in Malaysia.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the welcome reaffirmed the enduring civilisational, historical and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Sharing glimpses of the ceremony on X, PM Modi said India and Malaysia are deepening a partnership rooted in trust, friendship and shared aspirations.
He highlighted the strong cultural bond between the two countries, praising the Tamil community in Malaysia for preserving its heritage.
Reflecting a warm personal rapport, PM Modi shared a car ride with Anwar Ibrahim to a community event in Kuala Lumpur.
The visit marks a significant step in further strengthening the India–Malaysia partnership based on mutual trust and shared values.
