PM Modi Has Avoided The Arrogance Of Power, Says Tony Abbott

Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has lauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership approach, stating that the Indian leader has successfully avoided the arrogance that often accompanies prolonged power.

Abbott made the remarks while discussing the global significance of the Raisina Dialogue, an annual geopolitical forum hosted in New Delhi.

The conference has steadily evolved into a major international platform for strategic discussions.

Tony Abbott said the forum has convened every March since 2016, and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar conceived the initiative.

The gathering brings together political leaders, senior military officers, business executives, journalists, and think-tank representatives to deliberate on pressing international concerns.

Abbott compared the forum favourably with other global conferences. He argued that the event offers more open discussion than the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos and differs from the Boao Forum for Asia in China, which he described as more aligned with host government narratives.

Abbott also praised PM Modi’s personal conduct at the forum. He observed that the prime minister consistently attends the opening session each year.

Rather than delivering lengthy speeches, Prime Minister Modi listens to keynote guests. Abbott highlighted that last year the address came from the Prime Minister of New Zealand, while this year the President of Finland delivered the principal remarks.

The former Australian leader further argued that PM Modi ranks among the most influential figures in global politics today. He suggested that only the leaders of the United States and China wield greater immediate authority.

Abbott also dismissed claims that India has drifted toward authoritarian rule under the Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Tony Abbott pointed to free elections, an outspoken press, and an independent judiciary as proof of India’s democratic resilience.
