PM Modi Engages With Mauritius Opposition Leader Georges Lesjongard On India-Mauritius Friendship

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Georges Pierre Lesjongard, MP and Leader of the Opposition in Mauritius, on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Their conversation focused on enhancing cooperation and expanding bilateral engagements.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Met Mr. Georges Pierre Lesjongard, MP and Leader of the Opposition. We had a constructive exchange of views on aspects relating to boosting India-Mauritius friendship.”

Discussion With Former PM Pravind Jugnauth In Mauritius

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met former Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth for a ‘wonderful’ discussion on strengthening India-Mauritius cooperation across multiple sectors.

“Had a good meeting with former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth,” PM Modi posted on X.

Before these meetings, PM Modi extended his greetings to the people of Mauritius on their National Day and expressed his enthusiasm for joining the celebrations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reflected on the key moments of his visit, including his warm reception and discussions with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

On Tuesday, PM Modi and PM Ramgoolam held a high-level discussion to review bilateral ties and explore new avenues for strengthening their partnership.

PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment as a reliable development partner and reiterated both nations’ shared vision for the Global South.

Later, at a banquet hosted by PM Ramgoolam, PM Modi highlighted the strong historical and cultural bonds between India and Mauritius.

“Our relationship has no limits, and we will continue working together for the progress of our people and the stability of the region,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated.

During his address, PM Modi recalled introducing the SAGAR vision during his previous visit to Mauritius, reaffirming its significance in regional security and maritime cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Mauritius as India’s ‘close maritime neighbor and key partner in the Indian Ocean’.

PM Modi’s visit reaffirmed India’s strong diplomatic and cultural ties with Mauritius, underlining a commitment to future cooperation and shared progress.
