PM Modi Embarks On Oman Visit To Conclude Three-Nation Gulf And African Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Oman on Wednesday, marking the final leg of his three-nation tour, which included stops in Jordan and Ethiopia.

Invited by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, this will be PM Modi’s second visit to Oman, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.

The visit assumes special significance as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of India-Oman diplomatic relations. It follows Sultan Haitham’s state visit to India in December 2023, reflecting the high level of political engagement between New Delhi and Muscat.

During his stay, PM Modi will hold comprehensive talks with Sultan Haitham to cover the full spectrum of bilateral relations.

Key areas of discussion include trade and investment, energy cooperation, defence and security, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. Both leaders will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

MEA Highlights Historical and People-to-People Ties

Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs) at the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted that the visit underscores centuries-old contacts through maritime trade and strong people-to-people connections.

He noted that PM Modi will review the entire scope of bilateral relations and deliberate on international matters alongside the Sultan.

The Prime Minister will address a business forum to foster commercial and investment partnerships between the two countries.

Additionally, he will engage with the Indian community in Oman, recognising their role in bolstering bilateral relations and contributing to Oman’s economic development.

India and Oman maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership, with robust cooperation across multiple sectors, including energy security, maritime collaboration, and regional stability.

PM Modi’s visit is expected to strengthen these ties and pave the way for deeper collaboration in the coming years.

The trip reflects India’s continued commitment to strengthening relations with key partners in the Gulf and Africa, reinforcing both economic and cultural linkages.
