Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bratislava on Sunday evening for a two-day State visit to Slovakia, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country since its independence in 1993.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across several sectors.
After arriving in the Slovak capital, PM Modi said the visit would help deepen India-Slovakia ties and create new opportunities for collaboration. He also said he looked forward to meeting Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico to discuss areas of mutual interest.

The visit follows a period of increasing engagement between the two countries.
Recent high-level exchanges, including President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Slovakia in 2025 and President Peter Pellegrini’s visit to India earlier this year, have strengthened bilateral ties.
The Indian diaspora in Slovakia has warmly welcomed PM Modi’s visit.
Economic relations have also grown rapidly, with bilateral trade rising from $1.3 billion in 2024 to $1.8 billion in 2025.
During the visit, leaders from both countries will discuss cooperation in defence, digital technologies, cybersecurity, innovation and space research, while exploring new trade and investment opportunities.
Slovakia has backed India on key international issues, including its bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. It also helped evacuate Indian nationals during Operation Ganga in 2022 and condemned the Pahalgam terror attack.
A growing Indian community and expanding cultural ties are expected to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen India’s engagement with Europe.
