Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that the Coast Guard of India and Indonesia will work together to strengthen maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean, marking a significant step in expanding bilateral cooperation between the two maritime nations.
Addressing a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta after their bilateral talks, PM Modi said both countries had agreed to deepen cooperation in defence exchanges, disaster management, industrial collaboration and maritime affairs under the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Describing the relationship as entering a ‘golden chapter’, the Prime Minister said growing trust between the two nations had strengthened cooperation in defence, security and maritime affairs. He added that India and Indonesia would also expand collaboration in the blue economy, port development and maritime trade.
During the visit, President Subianto conferred Indonesia’s highest civilian and military honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, on Prime Minister Modi.
Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi dedicated the award to the people of India and said it reflected the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries.
