Pentagon: US Military Starts Building Gaza Pier To Aid Delivery

On Thursday, the Pentagon announced that the US military has started building a pier to boost deliveries of desperately needed aid to Gaza.

More than six months of Israeli strikes and combat operations against Hamas militants have decimated the little coastal region, leaving the civilian population in desperate need of humanitarian aid to live.

Pat Ryder, Pentagon spokesperson Major General, said, “I can confirm that US military vessels… have begun to construct the initial stages of the temporary pier and causeway at sea”.

The facility will have an offshore platform for transferring aid from larger to smaller vessels, as well as a pier for transporting cargo ashore.

US President Joe Biden first announced the plans in early March, while Israel stalled ground-based aid deliveries.

US officials have stated that the effort will not include ‘boots on the ground’ in Gaza, but American troops will be near the besieged area as they build the pier, for which Israeli forces will provide onshore security.
