Panama President Jose Raul Mulino Quintero expressed strong support for India’s fight against terrorism during a meeting with an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Palace in Panama City, highlighted India’s efforts to gain international backing against cross-border terrorism.
Shashi Tharoor described the discussion as ‘constructive and productive’, noting that the President ‘graciously expressed his understanding and support for India’s fight against terrorism’ in a post on X.
The delegation included parliamentarians across party lines, such as Shambhavi of the Lok Janshakti Party, Sarfaraz Ahmad from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Milind Murli Deora of the Shiv Sena, BJP leaders Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya, and GM Harish Balayogi of the Telugu Desam Party.
Their unified presence underscored a strong national consensus on counterterrorism.
The Indian delegation also engaged with Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha and Vice-Minister Carlos Hoyos.
Tharoor called the meetings ‘excellent and constructive’ and highlighted the presence of multiple senior officials, reflecting Panama’s high regard for India.
Former Indian diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who accompanied the delegation, confirmed Panama’s support for India and its opposition to terrorism.
National Assembly President Dana Castaneda said Panama supports India’s campaign for peace and defeating terrorism.
As part of the visit, the delegation paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi by laying floral tributes at his bust at the University of Panama and planting a mango sapling in his memory.
Members of the Indian diaspora joined the ceremony and interacted with the delegation.
This visit was the delegation’s third leg after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The delegation’s ongoing efforts aim to reinforce India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism and build a global consensus on counterterrorism strategies.
