Operation Amistad: India Expands Earthquake Relief Mission In Venezuela

India has expanded its humanitarian assistance to earthquake-hit Venezuela under Operation Amistad, strengthening relief efforts with emergency medical care, field hospital services and essential humanitarian supplies.

The initiative underscores India’s commitment to supporting countries affected by natural disasters through rapid humanitarian response.

Providing an update on Tuesday, the Embassy of India in Caracas announced that Operation Amistad had intensified relief efforts with a focus on delivering medical assistance and compassionate care to those affected by the devastating earthquake.

Earlier, the Indian Army established a fully equipped Field Hospital in Venezuela to provide urgent medical treatment to earthquake victims.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the facility was operational and offering healthcare support to those impacted by the disaster.

India launched Operation Amistad on June 28 after a series of powerful earthquakes caused widespread destruction across northern Venezuela.

Announcing the mission, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India had dispatched a Field Hospital Unit along with relief supplies, medicines and medical equipment to strengthen ongoing post-earthquake relief operations.

The humanitarian mission was supported by two Indian Air Force C-17 transport aircraft, which transited through Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, before reaching Venezuela.

The mission carried 35 tonnes of relief supplies, an Indian Army Field Hospital, two BHISHM cubes, and a 41-member medical team, including nine doctors.

Through Operation Amistad, India is providing emergency medical care while reaffirming its commitment to global humanitarian assistance.
