Oil Prices Near $90 As Iran Conflict War Shakes Global Energy Markets

Global crude prices climbed close to $90 per barrel on Tuesday as tensions involving Iran unsettled international energy markets.

Traders feared potential supply disruptions through the critical Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global crude shipments.

Brent Crude, the international oil benchmark, traded around $91.94 per barrel.

Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate hovered near $88.87 following sharp fluctuations earlier in the week, according to reports from CNBC and CNN.

Energy markets reacted swiftly as the conflict threatened maritime traffic across the strategic waterway located between Iran and Oman.

The Strait handles a substantial portion of global crude exports from Gulf producers such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates.

Amin Nasser, chief executive of Saudi Aramco, cautioned that prolonged disruption could seriously destabilise global energy supply.

He described the situation as potentially the most severe crisis faced by the region’s oil and gas industry.

Oil prices initially surged earlier in the week and briefly neared $120 per barrel.

Markets later cooled after comments from Donald Trump suggested the conflict might conclude soon.

Despite the temporary decline, analysts warned that uncertainty continues to dominate global energy outlooks.

Shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed sharply, raising concerns about the most significant threat to global oil flows in decades, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Meanwhile, American lawmakers proposed measures to reduce domestic fuel costs. Senators Mark Kelly and Richard Blumenthal, along with Representative Chris Pappas, introduced the Gas Prices Relief Act.

The proposal seeks to suspend the 18.4-cent federal gasoline tax until October 1, 2026, easing pressure on motorists.
