Netanyahu To Press Trump On Iran Missiles As US Continues Oman Talks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to the United States to hold talks with US President Donald Trump. Washington has confirmed it will continue engagement with Iran following indirect negotiations in Oman.

Netanyahu’s office said the discussions will centre on the US approach towards Tehran.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office stated that Netanyahu believes any agreement with Iran should extend beyond nuclear matters. He will likely urge the US administration to demand curbs on Iran’s ballistic missile programme and push for an end to Tehran’s backing of regional groups, including Hamas and Hezbollah.

This meeting will be the seventh between Trump and Netanyahu since the US president resumed office last year.

Observers suggest the Israeli leader will press Trump to harden Washington’s position on Iran’s missile capabilities, an area Iran has repeatedly ruled out of negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated that discussions with the United States will remain limited to the nuclear file. He has stressed that Iran’s missile programme is not open to negotiation.

President Masoud Pezeshkian described the indirect talks in Oman as a constructive development and said his government supports continued dialogue.

Taking to X, President Masoud Pezeshkian posted, “The Iran-US talks, held through the follow-up efforts of friendly governments in the region, were a step forward. Dialogue has always been our strategy for peaceful resolution. Our logic on the nuclear issue is the explicit rights under the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The Iranian nation has always responded to respect with respect, but it does not tolerate the language of force.”

President Trump characterised the latest round of talks in Oman as positive and suggested that Iran appears keen to reach an agreement.

At the same time, he warned that a failure to secure a deal would carry serious consequences. He confirmed that negotiations are expected to resume this week.

The diplomatic push follows weeks of escalating pressure from Washington. During this period, the United States issued repeated warnings of possible military action. At the same time, it deployed an aircraft carrier and accompanying naval forces to the Middle East.

International powers and regional actors have voiced concern that a breakdown in talks could trigger instability across the oil-producing Middle East.

Iranian officials have indicated a preference for nuclear-focused negotiations, while criticising the expanding US military footprint in the region.
