India, Seychelles Deepen Strategic Ties With New Agreements And SESEL Vision

India and Seychelles strengthened their strategic partnership on Monday by signing multiple agreements across priority sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie led comprehensive discussions in New Delhi, reinforcing cooperation and setting new benchmarks for bilateral engagement.

The two leaders reviewed progress in development partnership, capacity building, health, infrastructure, renewable energy, maritime security, blue economy initiatives, and people-to-people exchanges. Their talks underscored shared interests in regional stability and sustainable growth.

PM Modi and President Herminie also adopted a forward-looking framework titled Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL).

The joint vision aims to deepen economic integration, enhance security cooperation, and promote long-term sustainability.

Following the talks at Hyderabad House, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that India announced a Special Economic Package for Seychelles.

The package will support key development priorities, including public housing, mobility, infrastructure expansion, skill development, and maritime security capacity.

Both sides exchanged several Memoranda of Understanding. These covered health services, digital cooperation, meteorology, culture, ocean sciences, food security, and governance systems.

The agreements are expected to unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, and institutional collaboration.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and senior officials from both countries attended the meeting. Their presence reflected the strategic weight New Delhi places on ties with the island nation.

Earlier in the day, President Herminie paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. He also met EAM Jaishankar, who praised Seychelles’ support for India’s Vision MAHASAGAR.

The initiative focuses on maritime growth, regional prosperity, and collective security in the Indian Ocean.

EAM Jaishankar expressed confidence that President Herminie’s engagements with PM Modi would open fresh avenues for cooperation. He highlighted the shared outlook of the two maritime neighbours.

President Herminie arrived in New Delhi on Sunday after engagements in Chennai and Mumbai. During those visits, he met key stakeholders from governance, industry, coastal management, and the health sector.

Minister of State Anupriya Patel received him at the airport with a ceremonial welcome.

Seychelles remains a vital maritime partner for India and a key pillar of its Global South outreach.

President Herminie began his five-day State Visit on Thursday at the invitation of PM Modi. This marks his first visit to India since assuming office in October last year.
