Twelve Nepalese students studying in southern Israel are missing following the Hamas attack, and casualties are expected among them, Foreign Minister N P Saud said on Sunday.
On Saturday morning, Israel faced an unexpected and unprecedented multifront invasion – by air, land, and sea – by the Hamas group, which administers the Gaza Strip, in its southern sections.
At least 350 Israelis, including troops, have been killed and another 1,900 have been injured in Israel, making it the country’s worst day in at least 50 years.
According to media sources, Israel’s onslaught in Gaza has resulted in approximately 300 deaths and 1,500 injuries.
“Contact with 12 Nepalese students could not be established, and casualties are feared”, Foreign Minister Saud told PTI.
Under the Learn and Earn program, 17 Nepalese students attended Kubuz Alumim in southern Israel. According to Foreign Ministry sources, two of the 17 managed to leave safely, while three were injured.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, the injured Nepalese students are being treated in a hospital.
Currently, there are 4,500 Nepalese caregivers and 265 Nepalese students working in various agricultural enterprises under the learn-and-earn scheme.
The Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the Hamas attack in Israel. The Nepalese government has taken the situation seriously, according to a statement from the ministry.
According to the ministry, the Nepalese government has established a mechanism led by Foreign Minister Saud to rescue Nepalese citizens who are currently in Israel.
“The mechanism will continuously monitor the situation, evaluate the conditions faced by Nepali citizens, make necessary decisions regarding rescue operations, and coordinate and cooperate for the same effectively”, Mr. Saud said in a speech to the Parliament on Sunday.
Earlier, at least nine Nepalese people were reported to have been injured in the Hamas terrorist strike.
