Mediator Qatar Says Rafah Raids Could Hinder Gaza Truce Talks

On Monday, mediator nation Qatar stated that Israel’s fresh raids on a displaced people’s camp near Gaza’s southern city of Rafah could hinder talks for a truce and hostage release.

The foreign ministry expressed concern that the bombing would complicate ongoing mediation efforts and hinder reaching an agreement for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Qatar, together with the United States, and Egypt, has been in talks for months to reach a truce deal between Israel and Hamas in the devastated Gaza Strip.

But behind-the-scenes talks came to a halt earlier this month when Israel moved ground forces into Rafah.

Qatar, which has hosted Hamas’s senior leadership with the United States’ approval since 2012, condemned the Israeli bombing as a dangerous violation of international law.

The foreign ministry urged the international community to intervene urgently to stop Israel from implementing its plans to forcibly displace (Palestinians) from the city, which has become a final refuge for hundreds of thousands of people.

Saudi Arabia condemned in the strongest terms the continued massacres committed by Israeli occupation forces.

In a statement, the Saudi foreign ministry urged the international community to intervene immediately to halt the massacres carried out by the Israeli forces.

Kuwait’s foreign ministry also condemned Israel’s strike on the camp housing displaced Palestinians near Rafah, claiming it showed Israel’s blatant war crimes and unprecedented genocide to the whole world.

The Gulf monarchy demanded immediate and firm intervention by the international community.
