Mass Shooting: Accused commits suicide
Mass Shooting: The Lunar New Year has begun with a horrifying incident for the residents of Monterey Park in California, Los Angeles (America) as 10 people died during a mass shooting.
In the city of 60,000 people, red lanterns and banners in Chinese characters celebrating the “Year of the Rabbit” still fluttered all over the roadways. However, in the dance hall, where the brutal incident took place, yellow police tapes and heavily armed policemen supplanted any sign of happiness and festivities.
Just a few miles east of downtown Los Angeles, Monterey Park is considered the city’s “New Chinatown.”
According to the LA police, the man wanted for the mass shooting in Monterey Park during the Lunar New Year is dead, apparently from suicide.
Ahead of the investigation, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said that police had tracked a wanted van and when policemen approached. Policemen heard one gunshot from within the van. Moreover, the sheriff said, “The suspect sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The 72-year-old suspect was named Huu Can Tran.
Speaking on the motive of the attack, the sheriff said “I can confirm that there are no outstanding suspects from the mass shooting incident.”
“The investigation is still ongoing. Sheriff’s homicide detectives are working around the clock gathering additional information and working on determining the motive behind this extremely tragic event,” he said.
On Saturday night, a 72-year-old gunman entered the ballroom and killed five men and five women, and wounding at least 10 others, the authorities said.
The Monterey Park incident is one of the deadliest US mass shootings since the Uvalde massacre, in which 19 children and two teachers were killed in an elementary school in Texas.
