The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken significant action against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the head of the banned separatist organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). They seized his property in Chandigarh and confiscated land in Amritsar. Pannun faces numerous criminal cases, including sedition charges, in Punjab.
The properties seized include agricultural land in his ancestral village, Khankot, and a house in Chandigarh. These properties now belong to the government, as they were attached in 2020, preventing Pannun from selling them.
The NIA’s actions are part of a broader crackdown on the terror and secessionist network operated from various countries, including Canada. Pannun had recently threatened Indo-Canadian Hindus, urging them to leave Canada and return to India.
In a viral video, he called on Indo-Canadian Sikhs to gather in Vancouver for a referendum related to the killing of another Khalistani terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Pannun has been declared a terrorist by the Indian Home Ministry and was the subject of Interpol requests, although these requests were rejected due to insufficient information.
The NIA has been tracking Pannun since 2019, accusing him of promoting terror acts and spreading fear in Punjab and other parts of India. His organization, Sikhs for Justice, was declared an ‘Unlawful Association’ by the Indian government in 2019. Pannun has actively used social media to incite Punjab-based gangsters and youth to support the cause of Khalistan, challenging India’s sovereignty and integrity.
This recent action highlights the Indian government’s efforts to curb separatist activities and maintain national security. Pannun’s SFJ advocates for the creation of Khalistan, a religion-based separate state, which has been a contentious issue in India and among its diaspora.
