As Ukraine continues its counteroffensive against Russian forces, Russia reported on Saturday that it has destroyed three drones targeting an oil refinery in the southern border region of Bryansk.
The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz stated, “Russian air defence systems repelled an overnight attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Druzhba oil refinery in the district of Novozybkov”.
“Three aerial drones were destroyed thanks to the professionalism of our military”, he added.
He made no mention of any damage.
Drone assaults have increased in frequency in recent months, with Kyiv and Moscow claiming to resist them several times per week.
Oil facilities, which are critical for supplying the military, appear to be the prime targets of the drone attacks on Russian soil.
The Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula, which Kyiv repeatedly stated it intends to reclaim, is also frequently targeted.
The region’s Moscow-installed governor, Sergei Aksyonov said, “Russian soldiers shot down nine drones over the peninsula on Thursday”.
A drone struck a residential building in Russia’s southern city of Voronezh last week, injuring two people.
This was the first news of drones in Voronezh, a metropolis of one million people located in a location deeper within Russia than the border regions normally reported as being targeted.
