King Charles was alleged to have visited volunteers who run the Luton Sikh Soup Kitchen Stand in social media posts by the royal family that included pictures and videos.
King Charles visited a recently constructed gurdwara in Luton, a town outside of London, and interacted with the devotees as a gesture to the diversity of Britain. Children of all faiths greeted him while waving the Union Jack and the “Nishan Sahib” Sikh flag.
The king also met volunteers who run the Luton Sikh Soup Kitchen Stand, which “provides vegetarian hot meals seven days a week, 365 days a year at the Gurdwara,” according to social media posts from the royal family’s official accounts.
He also praised the neighbourhood for its assistance during the Covid outbreak during the previous nearly three years. According to a royal family Instagram post, it hosted a pop-up Covid vaccine clinic, one of the first of its type in the UK.
It continued, “The Gurdwara urged other houses of worship to combat false information about vaccine hesitancy.”
Over 5 lakh Sikhs live in the UK, making up about 1% of the total population. Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi, a notable MP for the Labour Party, is one of the many Sikhs who have served in the UK Parliament.
One of the comments on the royal family’s Instagram photo today read: “At his finest, KC. He serves as the Church of England’s Head. But he has frequently mentioned his role as a friend and leader of the faiths. In contrast to some opinions, I think he has a good heart.”
