US Vice-President Kamala Harris praised President Joe Biden on Monday in her first speech after his endorsement of her for the presidency.
Speaking at a ceremony honoring the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion teams on the South Lawn of the White House, Harris highlighted Biden’s unparalleled achievements over the past three years.
“In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who served two terms in office,” she remarked.
Harris reminisced about her connection to Biden through his late son, Beau, as they worked as Attorneys-General in their respective states.
“Beau often shared stories about his dad with me. He talked about the kind of father and man Joe is. The qualities Beau admired in his father are the same ones I see in our president every day. His honesty, integrity, commitment to faith and family, big heart, and deep love for our country are evident. I witness firsthand how President Joe Biden fights for the American people daily, and we are deeply grateful for his service,” Harris said.

She also mentioned that Biden, recovering from Covid-19, wished to attend the event but couldn’t.
“He is feeling much better and is recovering very fast,” she assured.
In a surprising announcement on July 21, Biden ended his re-election bid, stating it was “in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down.” The 81-year-old President made this decision amid growing pressure from his Democratic allies.
Following this announcement, Biden officially endorsed Harris as the 2024 Democratic nominee for president.
“My intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris declared in a statement. “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and unite our nation — to defeat Donald Trump.”
Prominent Democrats, previously seen as potential challengers to Harris, have rallied behind her, including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
