According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jaishankar is on an official visit to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman from July 5 to July 10 to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss regional developments and issues of mutual interest.
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his condolences following the deaths of Indian nationals in the Ras Laffan Industrial City accident.
PM Modi said both countries shared the grief of the affected families, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and reaffirmed their commitment to the safety and well-being of their citizens.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said 12 Indian nationals were killed in the explosion at the Ras Laffan gas field, while 66 people of different nationalities were injured.
India and Qatar established diplomatic relations in 1973, celebrated 50 years of ties in 2023, and elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership during the Qatar Amir’s visit to India in 2025.
