Israel’s intelligence chief said “Responsibility for this is on me”

The chief of Israel’s internal intelligence service, Shin Bet, accepted responsibility for not stopping Hamas’s lethal assault. Shin Bet head Ronen Bar said in a statement, “Unfortunately, despite a series of actions we carried out on Saturday we were unable to generate sufficient warning that would allow the attack to be thwarted.”

“I am the organization’s leader, so I am accountable for this. There is going to be time for research. We fight now,” he added.
After Hamas began an unprecedented air, land, and sea offensive on October 7, at least 1,400 people have perished and 3,400 more have been injured in Israel. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Israel’s retaliatory strikes on Gaza have resulted in at least 2,750 deaths and 9,700 injuries.

Israel Defence Forces ordered “all residents of Gaza City to evacuate their homes” and “move south for their protection,” claiming that people should “settle in the area south of the Gaza River.” This has raised tensions with the possibility of a ground conflict and evacuation orders for Gaza. According to its army, Israel intended “to avoid harming civilians” and intended to “operate significantly in Gaza City in the coming days.”

Since October 7, when Hamas militants in Gaza carried out a historic incident that horrified the country, Israel has been at war. The gunmen in the attack shot, stabbed, and disfigured victims.
Over 1,400 people, mostly civilians, have died in Israel as a result of the attack and subsequent combat.
