Israeli Army: Israel Attacks Syria Following Rocket Fire

The Israeli army announced early Saturday that it was conducting attacks in Syria after two rockets fired from the country landed in Israeli territory.

The Israel Defence Forces said, “Following the report regarding sirens sounding in northern Israel, a short while ago two launches that were identified crossing from Syria fell in an area”.

“The IDF (military) is striking the sources of fire”, the army continued.

The Israeli army confirmed that the projectiles fired were rockets, but did not specify where they landed.

The annexed Golan Heights are considered part of Israel’s northern region.

According to the Syrian defence ministry, an Israeli strike hit the area around Damascus on Thursday.

Israel seldom comments on specific strikes in Syria, but it has frequently stated that it will not let arch-foe Iran, which backs President Bashar al-Assad’s government, increase its position.

Since Syria’s civil war began in 2011, Israel has undertaken hundreds of air strikes on its northern neighbor, largely targeting Iran-backed forces such as Lebanese Hezbollah fighters and Syrian army sites.

Since the beginning of Israel’s war with Israel and Hamas on October 7, the border between Lebanon and Israel has seen frequent exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah as tensions elevate across the Middle East.

These clashes have killed more than 150 individuals on the Lebanese side of the border, the majority of whom were Hezbollah fighters, but also more than 20 civilians, including three journalists.

As per the army data, at least four civilians and nine troops have been killed on the Israeli side.

The fighting has largely limited to the border area, but Israel has warned that if Hezbollah militants do not withdraw, it will escalate its military.
