Israeli Airstrike Kills 3 Hezbollah Members In Southern Lebanon

Three members of the Hezbollah militant group were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a village in southern Lebanon on Tuesday evening, according to anonymous Lebanese military sources.

The airstrike, carried out by an Israeli warplane, targeted a house in the border village of Majdal Selm, destroying it and damaging nearby buildings. The sources told Xinhua news agency that two air-to-ground missiles were fired.

The casualties were transferred to Tebnine Governmental Hospital in southern Lebanon.

This incident is part of a broader escalation of tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, which began on October 8, 2023. Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel in support of Hamas, prompting Israel to respond with heavy artillery fire into southeastern Lebanon.

On Tuesday afternoon, Israeli warplanes and drones conducted three airstrikes on border towns and villages in southern Lebanon, while Israeli artillery shelled five towns and villages in the region.

The heightened tensions have raised concerns about a potential wider conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Background:

– Hezbollah, a Shia Islamist group, has been a longtime adversary of Israel.
– The Lebanon-Israel border has been a flashpoint for tensions and clashes.
– The recent escalation is linked to Hamas’ attack on Israel and Hezbollah’s support for the Palestinian militant group.

Developments are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
