Acting Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Bagheri Kani has condemned Israel for the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh, describing it as an act that undermines both regional and international stability.
Speaking at a meeting with foreign ambassadors and diplomats, Bagheri Kani accused Israel of pursuing a policy of warmongering and conflict expansion in the region and among Palestinians.
Bagheri Kani linked the assassination of Haniyeh with the earlier killing of senior Hezbollah commander Fouad Shokor in Beirut, suggesting that these events are part of a broader pattern of Israeli terrorist actions across Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria.
He criticized the attacks as unjustifiable and a direct violation of Iran’s sovereignty, given that Haniyeh was in Tehran as an official guest and attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) reports that a targeted attack on Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran early Wednesday killed him and his bodyguard.
The IRGC has attributed the attack to Israel, labeling it a terrorist act and pledging a harsh and painful response in retaliation.
