Iran FM Abbas Araghchi Holds Talks With Lavrov, Jaishankar On US-Israel Conflict Impact

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held separate talks with Sergey Lavrov and S Jaishankar to review the ongoing regional conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

During the calls, Araghchi discussed recent developments in West Asia and outlined the security and economic impact of what he described as aggression by the United States and Israel, according to official statements. He highlighted the broader consequences of the conflict, noting its potential to disrupt regional stability and global economic conditions.

Araghchi also detailed alleged attacks over recent weeks on Iran’s infrastructure, including industrial facilities, hospitals, schools, residential areas and nuclear sites. He urged influential members of the United Nations Security Council to adopt responsible approaches grounded in international law, calling for greater accountability and diplomatic engagement.

The Iranian Foreign Minister further emphasised the determination of Iran’s people and armed forces to defend national interests and sovereignty.

At the same time, he warned that continued escalation could have serious implications for both regional and global security.

For his part, Lavrov called for an immediate end to attacks on civilian targets, particularly the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, and stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from widening. He underscored the need to seize diplomatic opportunities to de-escalate tensions.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of restoring stability and security in the region, expressing India’s support for ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict and promoting dialogue.

The discussions come amid heightened tensions following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which triggered retaliatory actions by Iran and its regional allies, raising concerns about a broader escalation across the Middle East.
