Iran’s Tasnim news agency, which has ties to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), denied reports that a recent US airstrike on Yemen killed Iranian personnel.
The agency issued a statement dismissing Yemen’s Minister of Information, Moammar al-Eryani’s claims, who posted on social media that a US strike killed 70 members of the Houthi group, including senior field commanders and Iranian experts, on Tuesday.
The attack reportedly targeted a Houthi gathering in Al-Fazah, a coastal area near the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.
However, Tasnim quickly refuted the claim, stating, “The released report about the martyrdom of Iranian forces in Yemen is not correct. Tasnim’s reporter followed up and confirmed that the claim is false, stating that no Iranian has been martyred in Yemen.”
Tasnim stated that the anti-Iran psychological warfare campaign seemed to be spreading the ‘false’ news to escalate tensions in the West Asia region.
Iranian officials have previously asserted that the Houthi forces in Yemen are fighting independently against the US and Israel.
On Saturday, US airstrikes hit a solar energy store and a house in Yemen’s northern city of Saada, killing at least one person and injuring four others.
Medics reported the casualty toll as preliminary, with civil defense teams working to extinguish fires and search for victims at the targeted sites in the Hafsin area of western Saada city.
The attack occurred in the capital of Saada province.
Earlier, the Houthi group denied US claims that an airstrike had targeted a meeting of its military leaders in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
