Indian Parliamentary Delegation In Washington Asserts No Sympathy For Pakistan’s Actions

The Indian all-party parliamentary delegation currently on a diplomatic mission in the United States has reported unanimous international support for India’s fight against terrorism and no sympathy for Pakistan’s role in cross-border attacks.

The delegation is part of India’s global outreach to build understanding and support for its response to recent terror incidents, particularly the brutal Pahalgam attack in Kashmir.

Speaking at a Washington press conference, delegation head Shashi Tharoor expressed satisfaction with the response received.

“Every individual we have met has condemned the terror attack on India, expressed sympathy, and endorsed India’s right to defend itself. This solidarity has been extremely encouraging,” he said.

Tharoor described the Pahalgam attack as a heinous assault during a period of optimism in Kashmir, which had seen an influx of tourists boosting local livelihoods.

“A group of innocent holidaymakers were murdered in cold blood, targeted for their religion. This was a sickening outrage that united the nation,” he said.

India’s Measured Military Response

Shashi Tharoor further explained India’s strategic response through Operation Sindoor, emphasising its calibrated nature.

“The government’s message was clear – we respond only when attacked and will cease hostilities if they stop. After 88 hours, Pakistani military officials agreed to a ceasefire, which India accepted,” Tharoor noted.

Tharoor also questioned Pakistan’s global credibility, referencing Osama bin Laden’s presence, the Mumbai attacks, and terrorist groups listed by the UN.

He underscored that foreign interlocutors had no sympathy for Pakistan’s actions and largely echoed India’s account of events.

Tejasvi Surya, BJP MP and delegation member, criticised Pakistan’s peace rhetoric as disingenuous and said the delegation received unequivocal backing for India’s stance from international lawmakers.

“There is absolutely no sympathy for Pakistan’s cause,” Surya stated.

Former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, accompanying the delegation, highlighted the worldwide significance of India’s counter-terror efforts.

“These terrorists threaten the United States and the world. India’s fight is a battle for global security,” he said.

The delegation includes members from BJP, Congress, Shiv Sena, Lok Janshakti Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Telugu Desam Party, and others. This reflects India’s united political stance on the issue.

After their US engagements, the delegation continues diplomatic efforts to boost international cooperation against terrorism. They further aim to reinforce global support for India’s security concerns.

This visit marks a crucial step in consolidating India’s narrative on terrorism on the global stage while reaffirming the world’s recognition of India’s right to defend its sovereignty and peace.
