India Calls For Downsizing Of Canadian Diplomatic Presence Over Alleged Interference

The Indian government has requested Canada to reduce its diplomatic presence in India due to concerns over Canadian diplomats’ alleged interference in Indian affairs. This move comes in the midst of a diplomatic dispute related to the killing of a Khalistani terrorist.

India has suspended visa services in Canada, citing “security threats” that have disrupted the work of Indian officials. The Indian foreign ministry expressed concerns about the safety of its citizens in Canada, particularly Indian diplomats and members of the Indian community who oppose anti-India activities.

Canada’s High Commission in India had previously announced plans to “adjust” its diplomat numbers in response to threats against their staff on social media. This adjustment is seen as a precautionary measure amid heightened tensions.

The India-Canada relationship has deteriorated following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegation that Indian agents played a role in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Vancouver. India has strongly refuted these allegations, stating that no specific evidence has been provided by Canada to support them.

The diplomatic dispute has led to reciprocal diplomatic expulsions and the suspension of trade deal talks between Canada and India. The Indian government believes that Canada’s actions are politically motivated and that specific evidence of criminal activities on Canadian soil has not been acted upon.

This situation highlights the ongoing tensions and disagreements between the two nations, with India calling for parity in diplomatic presence and expressing concerns about Canadian interference in its internal affairs.
