‘India Believes In Development, Not Expansionism’: PM Modi In Indonesia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asserted that India follows the path of development rather than expansionism while addressing the Indonesian Parliament.

After receiving Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia, PM Modi said the recognition reflected the democratic values, shared heritage and deep ties between the two countries.

Highlighting India’s development philosophy, Prime Minister Modi said the country believes in inclusive growth under the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He noted that although thousands of kilometres separate the capitals of India and Indonesia, the sea has never acted as a barrier between the two nations but has instead served as a bridge connecting their shared future.

Referring to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s earlier remarks that he was happy there was no copyright in following India’s progress, PM Modi said friendship, affection and mutual respect cannot be bound by copyright, adding that his friendship with the Indonesian leader transcends such boundaries.

Calling the present a pivotal moment in history, the Prime Minister said the first quarter of the 21st century has passed and the next 25 years will be crucial for both nations. He expressed confidence that India and Indonesia would work together to contribute to global progress and serve humanity with renewed energy.

PM Modi also thanked the people of Indonesia for the warm welcome extended to him, describing it as one of the most memorable days of his life.

Addressing the gathering as a representative of 140 crore Indians and a citizen of the ‘Mother of Democracy’, PM Modi conveyed greetings on behalf of the people of India.
