The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted a series of strikes on Hezbollah military installations in the Tayr Harfa region of southern Lebanon.
The attacks, reported late Friday, followed the detection of several Hezbollah militants entering the area, according to the IDF.
The Israel Air Forces targeted Hezbollah’s military structures and rocket launchers.
This recent escalation comes on the heels of earlier airstrikes by the IDF on Hezbollah positions in Maryamine and Yaroun during the daytime.
Arab media sources have confirmed that IDF operations extended to the Tayr Harfa area after identifying militants from the Iran-backed group.
The IDF aimed to disrupt Hezbollah’s operational capabilities in the region with its actions.
Further reports indicate that Hezbollah retaliated by firing around 40 rockets into northern Israel, with some landing in the Upper Galilee.
Despite the scale of the rocket attack, Israel has reported no injuries or casualties.
This latest escalation follows a series of significant events in recent months.
On 31 July, an Israeli operation in Beirut killed Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr.
Shukr, a close ally of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, was targeted in response to the ongoing conflict between the two sides. Nasrallah had vowed retaliation following Shukr’s death.
Adding to the regional tension, the assassination of Hamas political bureau head Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran shortly after Shukr’s death further inflamed the situation.
The recent uptick in violence began on 8 October 2023, when Hezbollah launched a barrage of rockets into Israel in support of Hamas’s attacks.
In response, Israel fired heavy artillery into southeastern Lebanon, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict along the Lebanon-Israel border.
