Hundreds of Indian-Americans in Silicon Valley, California, celebrate Chhath Puja

Hundreds of Indian-American technologists, together with their friends and families congregated at a lakeshore in the US city of Fremont to worship the Sun as part of the Hindu festival of Chhath Puja.

On November 17, the four-day Chhath Puja began. Devotees fast and gather on the banks of rivers and ponds to pray to the Sun during the festival.

Hundreds of Indian-Americans took part in the festivities in Fremont, California.

This year, the Fremont organizers provided free tickets for entry to the lakefront for the Chhath Puja celebrations.

According to the organizers, the free tickets were gone within hours of the system being activated, with a long waiting list.

Chhath Puja is a very auspicious event celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The celebration honors the Sun, whom many believe sustains life on the earth. The puja is also performed to seek the Sun God’s blessings for a long, healthy, and prosperous life.
