Hormuz Crisis Disrupts Global Economy & Energy Supplies

A deepening crisis in the Strait of Hormuz is triggering widespread economic disruption, as global energy markets struggle with supply shocks following escalating tensions involving Iran.

Reports indicate that restrictions on maritime traffic through the vital route are significantly impacting oil, gas, and critical supply chains worldwide.

Nearly 20 per cent of the world’s oil passes through this strategic corridor, making its disruption a major concern for global markets.

The situation has intensified following retaliatory measures by Iran in response to strikes linked to the United States and Israel, turning the region into a focal point of economic uncertainty.

The impact is already visible, with energy prices rising sharply and supply chains tightening across continents.

Governments are preparing for prolonged disruptions, while analysts warn that the economic fallout could worsen significantly if the conflict continues.

India is moving quickly to secure energy, resuming oil imports from Iran and bringing in LPG shipments via Mangalore Port, signalling a strategic shift.

Experts warn oil could hit $170 per barrel within three months, while a six-month disruption may trigger a global recession.

Beyond energy, shortages in fertilisers and industrial inputs are straining Asia and spreading globally. Petrochemical sectors in India and China face raw material gaps, while rising fertiliser costs threaten agriculture.

Shipping delays and stranded vessels are disrupting trade, prompting countries to adopt fuel-saving measures and seek alternative supply routes.
