Former President Donald Trump assured the public of his safety after reports of gunfire near his Palm Beach golf course.
In a statement released on Sunday, Trump addressed the situation directly, stating, “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumours start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!”
Trump, maintaining his characteristic resilience, added, “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!”
The incident, which unfolded near Trump International Golf Course, has prompted heightened security measures and ongoing investigations.
Authorities are likely to hold a news conference to provide further details about the shooting.
The White House, through a statement, confirmed that President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris, who are both in Washington DC, have briefed on the matter.
The statement confirmed that the President and Vice-President received a briefing on the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing. They expressed relief over his safety and will receive regular updates from their team.
Meanwhile, Vice-President Kamala Harris expressed her relief via a post on X, stating, “I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”
The shooting reportedly occurred as Trump was on the golf course, with shots fired from trees on the periphery.
The Secret Service responded by returning fire in the direction of the shots.
Authorities have recovered a weapon from the scene and apprehended the shooter.
