A 20-year-old Indian student was discovered deceased in the United States, with his family alleging foul play in his demise.
Abhijeeth Paruchuru, a native of Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district, was pursuing engineering studies at Boston University, while his parents, Paruchuri Chakradhar and Srilakshmi Boruna, resided in Connecticut, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to his family, unidentified individuals on the university campus allegedly murdered Paruchuru on March 11, and his body was left in a vehicle in a wooded area. His identity was established by authorities tracing his cell phone signals following a report from his friends.
The Consulate General of India in New York, however, stated that initial investigations did not suggest any suspicious circumstances.
“Paruchuru’s parents are cooperating with investigators. Preliminary inquiries have not indicated any wrongdoing,” the consulate mentioned in a statement on X.
“We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Abhijeeth Paruchuru, an Indian student in Boston,” the statement expressed.
The consulate further stated that it assisted in the necessary documentation and repatriation of Paruchuru’s remains to India, and it remains in contact with local authorities and the Indian-American community regarding the incident.
