External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Monday met Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot in Brussels. He welcomed Belgium’s support in combatting terrorism and praised the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
Taking to X, Jaishankar added, “Pleased to meet DPM & FM @prevotmaxime at the start of my visit to Belgium. Welcomed Belgium’s support and solidarity in combatting terrorism. Appreciated the strong momentum of our bilateral engagement and the India – EU partnership.”
“Also held wide – ranging discussions on deepening our cooperation including in trade, investment, technology, defence & security, pharmaceuticals, clean energy and mobility,” the post added.
India-Belgium relations cover a broad range of sectors. These include trade and investment, green energy, pharmaceuticals, the diamond industry, and strong people-to-people links.
S Jaishankar’s visit aims to boost this partnership further. He is also expected to meet other senior Belgian leaders and interact with members of the Indian community living in Belgium.
Jaishankar is on a visit to France, the European Union, and Belgium from June 8 to 14.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), he will hold a Strategic Dialogue with EU High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas. He will also meet European Commission and Parliament leaders and engage with think tanks and media.
The External Affairs Minister will travel to Paris and Marseille for discussions with French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot. He will also take part in the first Mediterranean Raisina Dialogue in Marseille.
India and France recently marked 25 years of their strategic partnership. The MEA said India-France ties are based on deep trust, shared values, and close cooperation on global and regional issues.
