The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a fact-check warning over a fake notice circulating on social media platforms.
The notice falsely claims that BSNL subscribers’ KYC (Know Your Customer) has been suspended by TRAI and their SIM cards will be blocked within 24 hours.
PIB, however, clarified that the message is not from BSNL. The company never sends such notices and urged the public to ignore them fully.
Taking to X, PIB fact-check posted, “Have you also received a notice purportedly from BSNL, claiming that the customer’s KYC has been suspended by @TRAI and the sim card will be blocked within 24 hrs?”
Scammers aiming to steal personal or bank data have circulated this alert repeatedly. Similar phishing messages have even used BSNL’s branding to appear genuine.
Reports date back to at least 2023 and 2024, with repeated reposts on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.

Ignore such messages and do not click links or contact numbers provided.
BSNL released an advisory in 2021, stating it would never ask for KYC details via such alerts. For genuine updates, only rely on official BSNL channels or direct communications.
This fraudulent BSNL-KYC notice is part of a phishing scam. It is unverified and has been declared fake by PIB.
Always verify via official sources before acting on such urgent-sounding messages.
