This meeting follows a series of engagements Jaishankar has had with senior Biden administration officials during his visit to Washington, after addressing the UN General Assembly in New York. Notably, he met with Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, where Blinken highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Kyiv and reiterated the need for a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine.

Following his meeting with Sullivan, Jaishankar also took to X to express his appreciation for his discussion with Gordon, writing, “Appreciated the conversation on our bilateral ties and various global developments.” Gordon elaborated in a longer post, noting, “Great to meet this week with Minister @DrSJaishankar of India.
