After a protracted hiatus, former US President Donald Trump has returned to X, formerly known as Twitter, in the most Trumpian way possible: He tweeted a picture of his arrest warrant.
His return to the digital limelight follows his plea to charges relating to his participation in a scheme to invalidate Georgia’s 2020 election results.
After turning himself in at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Trump uploaded a dramatic photo of his mug and a link to his website about two hours later. There were two words to go along with these images: “ELECTION INTERFERENCE” and “NEVER SURRENDER!”
Elon Musk, the owner of X and a self-described supporter of free speech online, shared a photo of Trump’s mug image with the caption “Next-Level.”
After the notorious Capitol riots in January 2021, which Twitter claimed Trump incited, Trump’s Twitter account was “permanently” suspended. A tweet from him was posted on January 8, 2021.
Following billionaire businessman Elon Musk’s purchase of X last year, which ostensibly smoothed the path for Trump’s comeback, he was restored to the platform.
Trump, however, declined to rejoin Twitter and has since depended on his own, Truth Social, a substitute social media platform.
It’s still unclear whether Trump’s return on X represents a temporary showing or foreshadows a longer-lasting presence for his 86.7 million supporters.
Trump’s mug shot has received an astounding 72 million views and 7.76 lakh “likes” since it was posted six hours ago.
X was earlier lauded by Trump as a crucial asset that helped him win the 2016 presidential election. He had remarked in a 2017 statement that Twitter was a fantastic thing for him since it helped him spread the word. If I didn’t have a reliable method of disseminating information, I might not be in this position right now, speaking to you as president.

Trump’s habit of generating significant web traffic might potentially give the platform’s prospects a new lease on life if he does decide to rejoin X.
