Concerns Grow Over Hindu Minority Safety As Extremist Campaigns Resurface In Bangladesh

Bangladesh is witnessing increasing concern over communal tensions and the security of its Hindu minority population amid renewed campaigns by Islamist extremist groups.

Reports indicate that radical elements have intensified pressure against Hindu religious institutions, particularly in several regions of the country.

A major flashpoint has emerged in Palashbari Upazila of Gaibandha district, where extremist groups have reportedly demanded the demolition of a prominent Hindu religious site.

What began as a local dispute has evolved into a wider ideological campaign targeting Hindu symbols, places of worship, and cultural institutions.

According to a report by Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, Editor of the Bangladeshi newspaper Blitz, the international community must urgently encourage Bangladeshi authorities to act against those promoting religious hatred and communal division. He warned that failure to curb such activities could push the country towards severe communal unrest.

Choudhury stated that many citizens, particularly members of minority communities, had hoped for greater stability following the February 12 general elections.

Recent developments suggest that extremist groups are again attempting to exploit religious sentiments to create instability and weaken democratic institutions.

Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury also alleged that campaigns intensified after remarks by former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the killing of Bangladeshi Islamist leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

Subsequently, several online activists reportedly launched coordinated narratives linking a Hindu religious project in Gaibandha to foreign influence without presenting evidence.

The report further claimed that certain pro-Pakistan and pro-Turkey propagandists operating from abroad continue to spread inflammatory content online.

Choudhury urged Bangladeshi authorities to protect all citizens, monitor extremist activities closely, investigate threats against religious sites, and take firm legal action against those inciting violence and communal hatred.
