Chilean President Hails PM Modi’s Global Influence During India Visit

During his official visit to India, Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s exceptional leadership, recognizing his ability to engage with global leaders across geopolitical divides.

Addressing dignitaries at Rashtrapati Bhavan on April 2, President Boric acknowledged India’s growing role on the world stage and described PM Modi as a ‘key geopolitical player’.

“PM Modi, you have the status nowadays that allows you to talk to every leader in the world. You support Trump, Zelenskyy, the European Union, and Latin American leaders from Greece to Iran. That is something no other leader can say today,” said President Boric, underscoring PM Modi’s diplomatic outreach.

Strengthening Chile-India Bilateral Relations

President Boric’s visit marks a significant milestone in India-Chile relations, commemorating 76 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

During his visit, he highlighted Chile’s interest in deepening its strategic and economic partnership with India.

“Chile is a country that is globally connected, and now we want to strengthen our relationship with India,” he stated.

Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the two countries, covering areas such as cultural exchange and Antarctic research.

President Boric noted that Chile, being a gateway to Antarctica, sees immense potential in collaborating with India on scientific research and environmental sustainability.

Historic Visit After 16 Years

President Boric’s visit marks the first state visit by a Chilean leader to India in 16 years.

Acknowledging India’s transformation over this period, he expressed appreciation for the warm reception he received.

“For the past 16 years, no one from Chile has visited India, and in that time, India has changed tremendously,” he observed.

In honor of his visit, President Droupadi Murmu hosted a banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with him on furthering bilateral ties.

The visit also included high-level meetings with business leaders and key stakeholders.

Expanding Diplomatic & Economic Cooperation

Accompanied by ministers and business leaders, President Boric emphasized Chile’s commitment to diversifying its international partnerships.

“Chile does not depend on a single country. We have strong relationships with China, the US, the EU, and Asia-Pacific nations like Japan, Indonesia, and Australia. Now, we seek to deepen our ties with India,” he stated.

As part of his itinerary, President Boric will visit Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, engaging in business and cultural interactions to explore further cooperation opportunities.

The visit reaffirms India’s position as a key partner for Chile in various sectors, including trade, technology, and sustainable development.

With new agreements in place and an increasing focus on strategic cooperation, both nations aim to build a future of mutual growth and shared global influence.

As PM Modi and President Boric strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, their collaboration signals a new chapter in India-Chile relations, reinforcing India’s expanding role in global geopolitics.
