Britain’s King Charles will return to public duties next week for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday, as he makes good progress after treatment and rehabilitation.
In February, the palace reported that the 75-year-old king had been diagnosed with an unnamed type of cancer discovered in testing following a corrective operation for an enlarged prostate.
Although King Charles continued to conduct formal state business, the diagnosis forced him to postpone public engagements to begin treatment and rest.
Buckingham Palace spokesperson stated, “His majesty’s treatment programme will continue, but doctors are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far that the king is now able to resume several public-facing duties.”
“His majesty is greatly encouraged to be resuming some public-facing duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise”, the spokesperson added.
Although it was too early to predict how long his cancer treatment would endure, the spokeswoman stated that his physicians were very encouraged by the progress made so far and remained optimistic about the king’s continued recovery.
The individual’s health and treatment information was not disclosed because of standard medical privacy practices.
While he was photographed and filmed performing some official responsibilities in private, Britain’s King Charles’ only public appearance came last month when he greeted well-wishers in an impromptu walkabout following an Easter church service in Windsor, prompting expectations that his health was improving.
