On Tuesday, President Joe Biden stated in an interview broadcast that he and his administration are determining whether he has the authority to act on his own to close the United States’s southern border with Mexico to migrants if necessary.
Biden stated that because bipartisan legislation that would have given him the authority to close the border had been blocked by Republicans in Congress, he was encouraged to go it alone.
“We’re examining whether or not I have that power”, Biden continued, adding that there is no guarantee he does without legislation.
Migration is a major topic in this year’s presidential campaign.
Former President Donald Trump, Biden’s likely Republican opponent in the November 5 election, has accused him of failing to handle border concerns.
