Trump with his youngest son Barron
Barron Trump, Donald Trump’s 18-year-old son, backed out of his scheduled political debut on Friday, withdrawing as a Republican Party delegate at the July convention.
Barron, who has generally remained out of the public eye, grabbed global headlines this week when it appeared he would become the latest member of the Trump family to enter politics.
However, a statement from his mother, Melania Trump, the former president’s third wife, quickly put an end to the convention plans.
“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments”, the statement reads.
Trump will be officially crowned as the Republican contender to Democratic President Joe Biden at the convention in Milwaukee, with delegates from each state deciding who will run for president in November.
Barron would have joined his siblings, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump, as part of the Florida delegation.
Barron grew up in the White House throughout his father’s presidency, but he has been rigorously protected from public view.
Ivanka Trump, Trump’s oldest daughter, served as a senior advisor during his first presidency alongside her husband Jared Kushner, while Don Jr. and Eric are frequent attendees at Trump rallies and on the campaign trail.
