Bangladesh Screens Passengers From Mpox-Affected Countries

In response to rising mpox cases globally, the Bangladeshi government has initiated passenger screenings for arrivals from countries affected by the disease. This new measure was implemented at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.

The decision comes as mpox continues to spread in various parts of the world. Consequently, the Bangladeshi authorities have ramped up their precautions. At the airport, officials have begun checking the temperatures of incoming passengers from these high-risk countries. This step is crucial in identifying potential cases early and preventing the disease’s spread.

Furthermore, airlines are now required to be vigilant. They must report any passengers exhibiting symptoms of mpox directly to the health department. This requirement aims to ensure timely intervention and containment of any suspected cases.

In case a passenger is identified as having mpox, they will be immediately transported to a designated hospital in Dhaka. This process is designed to isolate the patient and prevent the disease from spreading further within the country.

Despite these measures, it is important to note that Bangladesh has not reported any mpox cases so far. The government’s proactive approach reflects its commitment to safeguarding public health and preventing the introduction of the disease into the country.

Overall, these precautions underscore Bangladesh’s dedication to monitoring and controlling potential health threats from abroad. By screening passengers and coordinating with airlines, the government aims to maintain a high level of vigilance and ensure the safety of its citizens.
