Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Leaves For India On A Two-Day State Visit

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina traveled to New Delhi on Friday afternoon on a two-day state visit at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation, marking the first such bilateral visit by a head of government since the BJP-led NDA alliance formed a government for the third time in a row.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines jet carrying the prime minister took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday afternoon.

During the visit, both premiers will meet one-on-one, followed by delegation-level meetings, and Dhaka and New Delhi will sign several agreements and memoranda of understanding to deepen current bilateral ties even further.

Furthermore, discussions about a prospective trade agreement are likely. Over the last decade, various cross-border initiatives have been established as part of a broad regional partnership strategy.

Sheikh Hasina’s trip to the Indian capital will be her second in less than 15 days, having previously attended Modi’s swearing-in event on June 9.

Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, will meet with the Prime Minister on Friday evening.

On Saturday morning, a red carpet will be thrown out at Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet Prime Minister Hasina and her Indian counterpart during a ceremonial ceremony where the national anthems of the two countries will be sung. She will also inspect the Guard of Honor there.

Both Prime Ministers will attend the signing ceremony of MoUs and agreements, and give press statements.

Then, Prime Minister Hasina will attend a banquet luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House.

Prime Minister Hasina will meet Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar at his Secretariat and President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan before returning to Dhaka.
